Battle for Azeroth is WoW’s Fastest-Selling Expansion

After Battle for Azeroth was a few days to play, Blizzard has put the first numbers for the sales. It shows: BFA World of Warcraft has achieved a sales record.

According to the notification, Battle for Azeroth had already on the first day of sale, on 14 August 2018, more than 3.4 million sold worldwide. This was a first-time sales record for the Warcraft and makes the Battle for Azeroth to be the fastest-selling WoW expansion, and one of the fastest-selling PC games of all time.

“Battle for Azeroth is a definitive chapter in the Horde and Alliance conflict at the heart of Warcraft, and it’s been thrilling to see players representing their factions in record numbers and embarking on their war campaigns—not to mention joining in ourselves,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “But the launch is just beginning of this conflict. More epic content is coming to World of Warcraft in the weeks ahead, and we can’t wait for players to experience the full story as it unfolds over the course of the expansion.”

How has Blizzard done this?

World of Warcraft for the past 14 years on the market and has appealed ever since, never a break. The servers were all online, it has constantly played players.

That after such a long time a new record is set up, is rare and remarkable. Quite unexpectedly, it is not, however, the PR campaign, which has fueled Battle for Azeroth, has worked very well.
